Bermuda Recommendations?
Posted: 2006-07-12 13:56:29

I am looking for recommendations on the following: (1) best restaurants - including cheaper, out-of-the-way "dives"; (2) best beaches (less touristy the better); and (3) the best places to play golf.

Anyone out there have some ideas or knowledge?

1 - restaurants - the best hamburger I've ever had was on the far tip of the dockyards - it was called the Frog and Onion - general kind of pub-type place, but good service, kid friendly, and decent food away from the main strip. There was a small quiet french restaurant that was hidden about 3 blocks up from Front Street and about 3 blocks to the side on the Saint George's side of the main strip. I don't know if it's still there, but my wife still remembers how good the food was. There are a few standard "bar / pub" type places on the main strip, but if you're going to do that, head down towards the airport and have a Rum Swizzle at the Swizzle Inn - it's a famous drink in the islands. Not bad.

2 - beaches - the best (in my opinion) is Horseshoe Bay - it's wide, has a canteen area and lots of sand, and there are dozens of little inlets you can find by walking along the beach, up and over a little grass or between some rocks. These little coves are super places - private and hidden, usually completely ignored by all the touristy-types out there, but still 40 feet to 100 feet of pink sand and the surf lapping at your toes. Horseshoe Bay also has free parking, so just park there and walk in the direction of Saint George's (west, I think) along the beach and onto the grass to find one that's been abandoned. Some of these little coves may take a bit of wading or climbing to get into, depending on the tides...

3 - golf - I never golfed there (but I did eat at the royal bermuda golf club )b ) - the Saint George's end of the island has the best golfing, from what I've heard from the islanders. The green fees can be rather expensive, but not outrageously so.

I hope this helps!
